The New Machine - solo exhibition 2013 (31)
Released in August 2013, The New Machine featured new paintings and works in mixed media inspired by the landscape and industrial detritus of the American West. A continuation of Allen's exploration of the concept of "PLACE", (see The Gravity of Place, 2009) The New Machine examines our romanticized, cultural fascination with the West: the heritage of Manifest Destiny and the rule of the gun, our love of gold, and the pursuit of wealth and the American Dream. Through this series of hauntingly beautiful images, the artist poses questions concerning the potential consequences of our way of life and the world we leave behind. -

Gravity of Place - solo exhibition 2009 (23)
The Gravity of Place is an series of work that revolves around themes of HOME, WORK, and PLACE. These themes were played out against a backdrop of the local history of the area in which I live, and the history of work and labor in Maine; recounting the shift from an agricultural-based economy to an industrial one, to that of present day. -
